Suzuki has cut prices, BMW has priced the F 450 GS aggressively, Chinese brands are putting pressure on the middleweight class. What this means for your purchasing decision in 2026.

The question “Buy now or wait another six months?” is no longer a gut decision in 2026. It depends on which segment you are looking at — and whether your desired motorcycle is in the crosshairs of Chinese competition or not.

Suzuki is the first to cut prices

Suzuki has reduced the V-Strom 800 by 410 Euro for the 2026 model year (10.800 → 10.390 €), and the V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050 DE by up to 760 Euro. Technically unchanged, only the seat has been upgraded. This is a clear signal: the V-Strom series is under massive pressure from CFMoto 800 MT-X and Voge DS 900 X.

In February, Suzuki followed up — first in Italien. On the local price list, the DR-Z4S, GSX-8S, GSX-8R, GSX-8T, GSX-8TT and, above all, the GSX-S 1000 GX fell by between 1.700 and 2.600 Euro. The GSX-S 1000 GX now costs 14.990 € in Italien — in Deutschland, it is still listed at 17.600 €. In response to MOTORRAD’s enquiry about transferring this to Deutschland, the company gave an evasive answer. Translated: it is coming, but we are not communicating it now.

BMW prices the F 450 GS suspiciously low

BMW is launching a middleweight GS with the F 450 GS for 7.220 € — by BMW standards, that is a declaration of war, not against Honda or KTM, but directly against Voge, Benelli TRK and CFMoto 450 MT. Officially, it is not marketed that way. Unofficially, everyone in sales knows who the bike is up against.

What is creating the pressure

Three things are happening at the same time:

  • The Chinese bikes are no longer toys: Voge uses Loncin engines that have been fitted in the BMW F 850 GS for years. CFMoto builds the KTM 790 parallel twin under licence. This is European technology at Chinese prices.
  • Price delta of 1.500–3.000 € in the middleweight class: A CFMoto 800MT Touring is priced at around 9.500 €, the Voge 900DS at 9.000 €. A Honda Transalp 750 starts at 10.500 €, a BMW F 850 GS at just under 13.000 €.
  • Market share is growing exponentially: In 2025, the best-selling Chinese machine in Deutschland was still ranked 37th (Voge DS 900 X with 665 units). In 2026, established dealers are adding CFMoto and Voge to their line-ups — the push is coming.

The others are still hesitating

Honda, Yamaha and KTM have not announced any official price cuts. With only 2.700 German new registrations in 2025, KTM is already in an existential crisis anyway. Honda is more likely to counter technically (new 500 four-cylinder models) rather than on price. The premium segment (R 1300 GS, Multistrada V4 Rally, Hayabusa, Goldwing) remains price-stable — there is no Chinese competition on equal terms there.

Buy now or wait?

The answer depends on the segment:

You are looking for…RecommendationWhy
Premium tourer (R 1300 GS, Multistrada V4)BuyNo China pressure, no price movement in sight
Middleweight adventure (V-Strom, Transalp, F 850 GS)Wait until autumnThe second wave is coming here. Suzuki has delivered, Honda and BMW will have to follow
Naked bike 800–1000 ccm (GSX-8S, MT-09, Z900)Wait until summerSuzuki-Italia prices are highly likely to come to DE
A2 entry-level bike (F 450 GS, KTM 390, MT-07)BuyBMW is already pricing the 450 GS aggressively, there is not much room below
Supersport bike (Panigale, GSX-R)BuyThere is more of a shortage than price pressure here
Chinese bike directly (Voge, CFMoto, QJ Motor)BuyYou are already benefiting from the better price, waiting achieves nothing

Conclusion

My impression: 2026 is the break in the price structure, but it will not happen evenly. Anyone eyeing a middleweight adventure and not needing to buy urgently can gain 500–2.000 Euro through patience. Anyone wanting a R 1300 GS can buy immediately — nothing is moving there. The really exciting part comes in 2027: when QJ Motor, Benda and Kove push into the 10-percent market-share range with larger dealer networks, Honda and KTM will have to follow suit. The question will no longer be “whether”, but “how much”.
