Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera: Black and Red from June 2026
All-black paintwork, DQS and Termignoni silencers from 13,990 Euro
Ducati is expanding the Hypermotard range with the new Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera. All-black paintwork, standard DQS and homologated Termignoni silencers – available from June 2026 from 13,990 Euro at all European dealers.
The final version of the single-cylinder model family was unveiled in Borgo Panigale on 14 May 2026. The Nera thus completes the Hypermotard line-up and is clearly aimed at riders who want to combine the Supermoto character with a distinctive, darker appearance.
Black dominates, red adds accents
The paintwork thrives on contrast: black defines the tank, fairing and tail, while the wheels and frame are finished in Ducati Red. This combination underlines the focus on performance and gives the bike a strikingly aggressive appearance – without resorting to ostentatious graphics or stickers.
The supplied Termignoni steel silencers are also consistently integrated into the colour scheme. Black surfaces with red details blend seamlessly into the design concept and further enhance the tail. The silencers are road-legal and part of the standard equipment.
Superquadro Mono: single-cylinder at Panigale level
Beneath the tank sits the Superquadro Mono engine, which is derived directly from the twin-cylinder unit in the 1299 Panigale. It adopts the 116-mm piston, combustion chamber, titanium intake valves, steel exhaust valves and desmodromic valve timing – precisely the technology that Ducati also uses in MotoGP.
The result: 77.5 PS peak power and a maximum engine speed of 10,250/min. This gives the engine a benchmark figure in the single-cylinder class that has not previously been achieved by a road-legal production motorcycle.
Ready to ride without fuel, the bike weighs 151 kg. This is made possible by a tubular steel trellis frame with variable cross-sections and wall thicknesses, cast wheels and brake discs with aluminium inner rings, as well as a lightweight double-sided swingarm with progressive linkage and a fully adjustable shock absorber.
Electronics from the V4 world
The electronics package includes functions otherwise found only on significantly more expensive models. Much of it has been adapted from the Panigale V4 and retuned for the single-cylinder concept:
- Cornering ABS with Slide-by-Brake function for controlled drifts on the racetrack
- Ducati Traction Control
- Ducati Wheelie Control
- Engine Brake Control
- Ducati Power Launch
- Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up/Down – standard
At its lowest setting, Wheelie Control allows controlled wheelies. Those using the optional Termignoni racing exhaust system (racetrack use only, +7 PS) also unlock the Wheelie Assist function – the electronics then help keep longer wheelies stable through torque delivery.
Availability and price
The Hypermotard 698 Mono Nera will arrive at European dealers from June 2026. The starting price is 13,990 Euro. The configurator on Ducati.com allows machined aluminium parts, an aluminium number plate holder, as well as racing seats and footrest systems to be added.
Anyone wishing to test the bike beforehand: Ducati offers rider training courses through the DRE-Road programme, in which the Hypermotard models are also used; test rides at dealers can be booked directly online.
Conclusion
For me, the Nera version is the most consistent incarnation of the 698 Mono so far. Anyone looking for the Supermoto character but wanting to avoid colourful factory graphics gets a motorcycle here that is as direct visually as it is technically. The fact that DQS and Termignoni silencers are included as standard makes the additional cost over the base version understandable – these are precisely the parts that would otherwise be retrofitted anyway. The question remains as to how the single-cylinder really feels in everyday use. I will try to arrange a test ride in the summer.
